From a young age, I enjoyed a number of artistic pursuits such as, drawing, jewellery making, craft and sculpture.
I started work as a florist at the age of 15 and quickly found that I had ability for colour & design. Later in the 1980’s I was employed by a company who engaged me to design and create a variety of dried flower baskets. As the business grew, I taught a team of people to produce more of these flower baskets. The baskets where distributed to a number of department stores for sale around the country & even appearing on a television series.
Drawing animals and moving onto portraiture has always held my interest but when I joined a group called the Mermaids, it gave me the oppurtunity and challenge of drawing the human form. I spent more than five years drawing nudes with some very talented artists and gained a lot of skills from the experience. In 1996 I exhibited a pastel painting that sold at a local art gallery, which gave me the confidence to further pursue my dream.
While raising children I had some Tafe tuition and later continued with a further year of private art instruction in Canberra, which I now feel makes me more rounded as an artist.
I also enjoy creating original digital fine art, blending traditional methods like painting and drawing with modern digital computer art. This is one of the latest methods of producing original works then publishing as prints, using the same digital printing systems as giclée reproductions.
Through the years I received various commisions to produce works mainly in the portraiture area.
In 2003 I was commissioned for a series of portraits for a hotel in Newcastle, NSW. The portraits where of local hotel patrons.
In 2007 I was commissioned for a series of portraits for a private company, three of which were published into their book to commemorate their organisations history.
I work from still life, photographs and a variety of software which enables me to bring out the best in my subjects.
My favourite subject has always been portraiture, I felt in my younger years a spiritual push to keep going in this direction. I enjoy drawing - mostly realisticly and capturing the light and “spirit” or “essence” of a person.
My interests include:
Charcoal
Pastel
Drawing
Digital Painting
Graphics
Photography
